Our Farm

One Sun Farm's 35 acres have been developed and designed with a permaculture based farm plan.  Many of the perennial plantings serving as the base of that design  now coming into meaningful production.  Our farm features:

  • Plantings of over 3,000 hybrid hazelnut bushes
  • More than a half acre of raspberries
  • More than an acre of asparagus
  • Well over 100 Evans cherry trees
  • Well over 100 blueberry bushes
  • Well over 100 apple trees at various stages of maturity
  • Mixed smaller quantities of pears, plums, currents, chestnuts, and sour cherries
  • Nearly 3,500 row feet of garlic in the ground ready to harvest in July
  • A spring-fed creek wandering through the property
  • 10 acres of grazing area
  • 20 acres of wooded ridge land which includes beautiful hard maple stands which we tap for maple syrup
  • A 12x40 greenhouse with a wood stove

We also practice small scale sustainable-minded logging projects in the name of lumber, firewood, and woods improvement.  For the most part, much of the woods has remained untouched.

The acre of asparagus comes on in late April, and becomes a much loved pizza topping.

Although there are a handful of mature apple trees on the farm, many of the newer fruit trees as well as the blueberries are all at the stage of producing sizable crops for the first time.  Many will be becoming four, five, and six years old this year.  Fruit is a very valuable asset in the kitchen, and will provide tremendous opportunity for future product expansion.

Raspberries and hazelnuts are currently the biggest producers.  Our raspberries and hazelnuts are planted in the same rows together in a permaculture “stacking” arrangement.  With both crops coming on strong, we hope to eventually use them in some exciting new farm products (if we can keep up with the abundance).

The farm has been and continues to be managed using organic principals and guidelines though we aren't currently getting ourselves certified.
