The Varneys

David, Erin, Sam, & Daisy

David and Erin purchased the farm in March of 2001 with a rototiller, a wheelbarrow, some hand tools, and a dream - a permaculture farm and a place to raise Sam and Daisy.

Combining their experience with farming, food, and marketting and knowledge learned through the Land Stewardship Project's Farm Beginnings program, the Varneys set out to create a special, even unique, family business - a sustainable farm that makes pizzas. In keeping with their values, David and Erin built One Sun Farm using sustainable and permaculture practices and have brought high-quality, handcrafted pizzas to local co-ops and markets in three states.

But as the kids grew into their teenaged years and other opportunities called, David and Erin put the farm and business on the market in 2009. During the process of closing, the Varneys decided that maybe the best opportunity of all would be to partner with the new owners, the Chai-Mulkerins, who weren't quite ready to take on the business themselves.

The Chai-Mulkerins

Mark, Denise, Katie, Madeline, & Charlie

While both have a growing passion for permaculture and sustainable living, Denise brings many years of financial experience to the One Sun Farm family while Mark is the proverbial jack-of-all-trades having performed as a magician, mall Santa, and stand up comedian, worked in libraries, taught English, and designed websites.

With the passions and skills the two families bring to One Sun Farm, we will continue bringing our harvests and artisans pizzas to area co-ops and markets.
